A Collaborative Effort for a Better Community

Mission

The Memphis Chapter of the Southern Chrisitian Leadership Conference have joined forces to make a measurable impact on the community in the areas of economic development, education, health and welfare, and employment.  The primary benefactors of their efforts are people of color.

BOSS serves as an Economic Development outlet to promote future entrepreneurship and to get more young people employed and off the streets of Memphis, Tennessee.  This organiation, which is headed by Mr. Johnnie Williams of Memphis, Tennessee, also serves as a network for job training and is adamant about promoting education throughout the Memphis City School System.  Even though we want our children to get a good education so that will be able to compete in the job market, we also want them to get a good education so that they can start their own businesses and leave a legacy for their children.  The same way we as adults of today, should be concentrating on leaving legacies to our children.  Remember, our children are our most precious resource.  We must give them every opportunity to have a good, non-stress related life.  The only way to accomplish this is through economic development.

In the 1950's and 60's, the Black community owned 28% of the businesses in Memphis, Tennessee.  Here in 2008, Black people own less than 1% in this city.  Our jails are overcrowded with Black men and women.  To be exact, Black men and women are 83% of the jail population in the United States.  In 2007, Black people spent an estimated $700 Billion dollars in the service community, yet produced nothing.

Let's combine our gifts, talents, skills, and education and choose jobs over jails.
